Staying Inn For A Virtual Good Time

Staying Inn For A Virtual Good Time

Anyone fancy a pint? Of course you can’t pop out to the pub at the moment, but a group of disabled people are regularly getting together to have some pub-style fun in a virtual way.

The Staying Inn has been set up to keep people in self-isolation connected during Covid-19. You can also follow it on Twitter.

They use video conferencing site Zoom for meet-ups and hold events including a pub quiz at 8pm every Saturday – the last of which attracted 43 teams – and among other things lined up are British Sign Language and Deaf Awareness sessions, craft classes and disability advocacy workshops. The sessions use BSL and captions to be as inclusive as possible.

On Sunday May 3 the pub will have a special guest in the form of Australian author and disability rights campaigner Carly Findlay who will be in conversation with landlady Dr Amy Kavanagh, otherwise known as The Blonde Historian on Twitter.
This is the full list of events so far.

You can become a member here. They have no fees but do appreciate if members can afford to donate the price of a pint for each visit to help keep the Inn as accessible as possible.

Cheers!

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
