Sheffield Travel Support

  • Getting you where you want to go

Sheffield Travel Support (STS) is a paid for service that provides travel support to hundreds of people with learning disabilities each week. Typically, customers are driven to their destination but we can also support and accompany people on public transport journeys.

The service is aimed at anyone who may find using taxis or public / council transport difficult or is anxious about traveling with strangers. We are based in Sheffield but can provide travel support across South Yorkshire and into Derbyshire for regular, recurring trips or for one-off events.

    Travel Support Workers

Our regular customers have the same regular Travel Support Workers, helping them to build trusted relationships with us and our Travel Support Workers to understand your needs and preferences better.

Our Travel Support Workers not only take our customers where they need to go, but also ensure people are safely accompanied door-to-door there and back, personally accompanying them to services or activities rather than just dropping them outside or are happy to wait if you’re running late.

    Joining Disability Sheffield

STS was established by Yes2Ventures in 2011 but, as from the 1st April, 2024, will move over to be part of Disability Sheffield. We are very proud and excited to have STS join us and we hope that we can build on the great work of Yes2Ventures to ensure that a valuable and important service remains available to everyone who needs it.

We are also pleased to confirm that Rebecca Reed and all of our current Travel Support Workers will be staying on with STS as the service moves across to Disability Sheffield.

    Driving Forward

Over the next few months we will be looking at ways to develop the service, whilst maintaining the strong community feel it has created. As Disability Sheffield is a pan-disability organisation, one area that may be considered is opening STS out to broader client groups. We are also aware that there is already a waiting list for STS and so, once the transfer from Yes2Ventures to Disability Sheffield has had time to settle in, we will be looking at how we can expand to be able to support more people.

Please note: at present STS is unfortunately unable to take on any new customers as our Support Workers are already working at full capacity. As part of our plans to grow the service we will be looking to recruit additional Travel Support Workers as soon as possible.

If you would like to be added to the waiting list, or have any questions regarding the support STS provides, please contact Rebecca via info@sheffieldtravelsupport.org.uk and we will contact you as soon as spaces become available.

Depending on your personal circumstances, we can either invoice customers directly or via third party payment providers, such as Penderels or Citizenship First, etc.

Recent Feedback    (We'd love to receive your feedback, please click here to add some)

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
