Face Coverings : Why and How to Wear Them Safely

From 8 August face coverings need to be worn in additional indoor settings, unless you are exempt from wearing a face covering. We’re reminding you that Greg Fell, Director of Public Health in Sheffield, in his July video ,explained the importance of wearing face coverings correctly with continued social distancing and hygiene. He emphasised that the most important ways to control the pandemic are to stay at home if you have symptoms, keep your distance where possible, wash your hands frequently and wear a face covering in enclosed public spaces if you are able to do so.

  • We're Only Making Plans For Nigel......

People with a learning disability and autism have helped co-produce a hard-hitting video to get their ‘Work with us, not for us’ message across. It is about them being the experts on their own lives, and what good support looks like. The video, Making Plans For Nigel, named after and featuring a 1979 hit single by wacky powerpop band XTC, aims to show the way that some disabled people are often labelled against their will, patronised and not listened to.

Advocacy and Information Celebration and Video

We hope that you enjoyed our Celebration Event on Thursday 6th December marking 10 years of our advocacy and information service, as much as we did. Thank you to our sponsors who made the celebration possible – Switalskis solicitors, our local Sainsbury’s on Division Street and Virgin for the use of their fantastic lounge. A special thank you to our trustee Christine Griffiths from Switalskis solicitors for her support and assistance at the event and our volunteer, Andrew Smith who has produced a great video we launched on the night to mark the occasion.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
