SACMHA Newsletter

SACMHA was set up over 30 years ago to meet the needs of members of Sheffield’s African Caribbean Community experiencing mental ill health.

The issue of their first newsletter aims to capture what is happening in the organisation, focussing on direct support through engaging, consulting and informing the African Caribbean community in Sheffield.

As David Bussue, Service Director explained “The pandemic, coming at the same time as the impact of the murder of George Floyd and others has shone a glaring light on health and social inequalities as they impact the African Caribbean community in Sheffield. As a result of this volatility we have completely revised our delivery plan and have become active in a range of adult social care services with regard to both mental and physical health.”

You can find out more about SACMHA’s existing and planned services in their newsletter and on their website including:-

  • A Social CafĂ© & Lunch Club
  • SACMHA webinars
  • The Wellbeing Hub
  • Self Directed Support Services
  • Counselling Referral Service
  • Health and Social Care Services
  • Community Mental Health Advocacy Service

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
