Primary School Bans Blind Student's White Cane

A blind student has been banned from bringing her white cane to school because of “health and safety” reasons. Lily-Grace Hooper, seven, had a stroke when she was just four days old, leaving her only able to perceive light and shapes out of one eye. However, her school, Hambrook Primary School in Bristol, has told the youngster she can no longer use her cane because it could trip up teachers and other pupils. The BBC’s Inside Ouch podcast has discussed the ins and outs of the story. Listen to the programme on BBC Ouch’s podcast page, and for more on this story view Telegraph article.
