Muslims Encouraged to have Vaccine during Ramadan

Muslims Encouraged to have Vaccine during Ramadan

Muslims are the second largest faith group in Sheffield. During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food and drink between sunrise and sunset. Following concern that Muslims who are eligible for the covid vaccine may refuse on the grounds that it invalidates their fast, Sheffield NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has launched a campaign ahead of Ramadan to raise awareness that having the Covid vaccine does not break your fast.

The religious guidance from Islamic scholars and the British Islamic Medical Association backs having the vaccine in Ramadan which starts around April 12.

Local Muslim faith leaders, working in partnership with the CCG and Sheffield City Council, are spreading the message that getting vaccinated while fasting is allowed in Islam. Read more about this in Sheffield CCG news.

Videos in community languages will be available to share with local Muslims on the Sheffield CCG YouTube channel NHS .
