Love Your Leftovers

Do you throw much food away? Each year, the UK wastes 5 million tonnes of edible food and drink – enough to fill nine Wembley Stadiums or 4,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools. So a campaign has been set up this month to encourage people to cut down on food waste.

Mark Smith, Volunteer and Engagement co-ordinator with Healthwatch Sheffield, also volunteers with Junior Chamber International, an organisation aimed at 18-40 year olds that provides development opportunities and empowers young people to create positive change in our communities.

The Junior Chamber has organised a Love Your Leftovers campaign which includes a downloadable pack (with handy statistics and resources) and a food waste diary.

They are hoping this will encouraging members, supporters and the general public to:

• Raise awareness of the effects of food wastage.
• Be mindful of how much food they throw away.
• Get creative with their leftovers!

They are also interested in hearing about themed events and your recipe plans so if you want to get involved you can email Mark at m.smith@healthwatchsheffield.co.uk

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
