LGBT+ History Month Events

LGBT+ History Month Events

We are in the first week of LGBT+ History Month 2025, designed to highlight the things people with different sexualities and gender identities in all their diversity have achieved throughout history in all areas of life.

And SAYIT, a Sheffield-based charity which provides practical support to LGBTQ+ young people, hosts a parent and carer group, and whose training helps organisations improve knowledge of and address discrimination. is holding several events to mark the month.

These include:

  • My Mind On Paper, which will feature a panel of LGBTQ+ readers and writers talking about writing across many genres. It takes place on Wednesday, February 19 from 6-7pm at the Carpenter Rooms at Sheffield Central Library on Surrey Street.
  • Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope. A performance by Mark Farrelly, Thursday 27th February from 19:00-20:15 (doors 18:00), taking place at the Library Theatre on Surrey Street.
  • All Together, One at a Time. A panel discussion about LGBTQ+ activism, on Wednesday 12th March from 18:00-19:30, again at Sheffield Central Library.

Full details of these events can be seen here.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
