House of Lords Debate : Challenges facing disabled people in 2018

Baroness Thomas of Winchester secured a House of Lords debate on 28 June 2018 “that this House takes note of the different challenges facing disabled people in the United Kingdom in 2018.”

Disability Rights UK prepared two briefings in advance of the debate and sent them to all those members of the Lords taking part.

Briefing 1 outlines the challenges posed to disabled people by Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Employment and Support Allowance (EA) and Universal Credit.

Briefing 2 outlines why the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is being compelled to review the benefit claims of over 1.5 million disabled claimants.

More information can be found on the UK Parliament website here.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
