Dame Sarah Storey Wins Para-Cycling International Race in Yorkshire

Dame Sarah Storey, Britains most successful female Paralympian and Sheffield’s Active Travel Commissioner has won the women’s C5 road race at the Yorkshire Para-Cycling International.

The win marked the started of the Yorkshire 2019 UCI Road World Championships cycling event.

Steve Bate and Adam Duggleby won the B-class tandem, while William Bjergfelt won the men’s C5 race.

Dame Sarah Storey was named the Active Travel Commissioner for the Sheffield City Region in April this year. Her role involves “championing active travel and working alongside Mayor Jarvis to create a region in which more people travel on foot, by bike or by public transport.”

She said: “I’m proud and excited to be the first Active Travel Commissioner for the Sheffield City Region. I believe active travel is a less stressful way of moving about, and helps to create the foundation of a happier workforce and a happier population.”

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
