Mencap Call to Transform Care

Mencap Call to Transform Care

National charity Mencap are calling on the government to transform care once and for all and asking for your help saying “After the Winterbourne View scandal, the government promised to ‘transform care.’ They said people with a learning disability and/or autism would be supported to move out of inpatient units like Winterbourne View and back into the community. The government hasn’t kept its promise.

Over 2000 people with a learning disability are currently in these settings. Abuse like what was seen at Winterbourne View has happened elsewhere; and there is little trauma support for those who have been in inpatient units, or their families.”

If you’d like to respond to their call you can use this link to write to your MP to call for the government’s action plan for transforming care to be published.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
