May's a Dementia Friendly Month

May's a Dementia Friendly Month

The national Dementia Action Week starts today and encourages action to improve the lives of people affected by dementia. As one in three people born in the UK today will go on to develop dementia in our lifetime, there will be one million people living with dementia by 2025 making dementia care one of the greatest challenges facing our society.

There are an estimated 7,000 people aged over 65 living with dementia in Sheffield, as well as smaller numbers of people with early onset dementia.

May has been declared Dementia Friendly Month in Sheffield . You can read a feature highlighting the community help and support that’s available in the city for people with dementia and their families on Sheffnews.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
