Free Parkinson's UK Self-Management Programme

Parkinson’s UK have announced that they will be offering their free self-management programme in Sheffield this spring.

Each self-management group brings together 8 to 12 people with Parkinson’s, partners and carers. Groups meet locally for six sessions(2.5 hours per week) of discussion, activity and self-reflection,led by trained volunteer facilitators.
Participants say that as a result of attending the programme they feel:

  • armed with information and knowledge
  • more confident, positive, in control and able to move forward
  • less alone as a result of meeting others
  • they have greater self-awareness and insight
  • they have improved speech as a result of talking in the group
  • they have gained a personal action plan for doing specific things such as exercise, hobbies and therapeutic activities

The programme is FREE to attend and partners/carers are very welcome as full participants.

The next self-management group in Sheffield will meet as follows:

Date: Thursday 11 May, 18 May, 25 May, 1 June, 8 June and 15 June
Time: 10.30am – 1.00pm

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
