Debbie's Rambling is Accessible

Debbie's Rambling is Accessible

Disabled rambler Debbie North will be seeing the sights near Sheffield later this year as she leads an accessible and wheelchair-friendly adventure in the Peak District.

Debbie, who lives in Cumbria, was a keen hill walker until a spinal condition meant she now has to use a wheelchair. Since then she has been passionate about making the countryside as accessible as possible and has teamed up with Sheffield-born television presenter Julia Bradbury who set up the free resource The Outdoor Guide. Debbie runs the AccessTOG section of the site, which lists over a hundred wheelchair-friendly countryside walks.

Debbie was recently interviewed by Clare Balding for her Radio Four programme Ramblings

On the women only holiday from August 16-19th, participants will be staying for three nights at the YHA England and Wales hostel in Castleton, which has fully-accessible ground floor rooms. Visits to Chatsworth House and the Tissington Trail are also on the agenda. All walks and activities are suitable for a person using a manual wheelchair, though there are options for hiring mobility scooters and all-terrain wheelchairs. For further information look here.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
