Autism Acceptance Course

Are you autistic, or do you have friends and family members who are and want to find out more about problems you or they may encounter and how to work towards solving them?

If so, you may be interested in David Panther’s Autism Acceptance Course, which has two sessions taking place in Sheffield this month in tandem with local charity Yes2Ventures which for the last 15 years has been setting up and supporting social firms that offer training and employment to people who are severely disadvantaged in the labour market.

David is autistic himself and his presentations have been described by Sheffield Autistic Society as giving a true insight into the lived experience of an autistic person and being a valuable illustration of why Autism Awareness is not enough therefore society should be working towards Autism Acceptance.

The first session will take place on Wednesday 14th November at Cinema 1, The Showroom Workstation, 15 Paternoster Row, Sheffield, S1 2BX. It lasts from 9-11 am but attendees can meet for refreshments from 8.30am in the Showroom Bar. The second is on Sunday 18th November in the function room at The Gardeners Rest, 105 Neepsend Lane, Sheffield S3 8AT from 3-5pm with refreshments from 2.30pm. Please note that the function room is up a flight of stairs and is not wheelchair-accessible.

There is no charge for either event but a £5 donation is asked from those who can spare it. If you are interested please book in advance by emailing Mark Powell at mark.powell@yes2ventures.org.uk

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
