Healthwatch Sheffield Want to Hear from More People of Colour

In response to the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, revealed in a new report, Healthwatch Sheffield have published interviews with people of colour who share their own thoughts and experiences and would like to hear more views from the BAME community, if you’d like to get in touch.

Feel 'Covid Confident' on Your Trips Out with Euan

Now that the coronavirus lockdown is easing and the public is getting out and about more there is a lack of information about how ‘safe’ certain venues are for disabled people. So Euan’s Guide, a site that offers access reviews written by disabled people, has introduced a feature where reviewers can comment on hygiene and whether social distancing rules are being stuck to.

What It's Like To Take Part In Move And Chat

These common household items can also help you get fit during the lockdown if you take part in the weekly Move And Chat sessions set up by Sheffield Cycling 4 All a project run by Disability Sheffield. Inclusive Summer Festival Fun

Sheffield CU – with the initials standing for Children’s University – is part of a national initiative that encourages and celebrates participation in a wide range of inspiring learning opportunities outside school hours.Their Festival Of Fun consists of more than 75 free activities for children, young people and families, all of which are suitable for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) with adult support.

Government Sets out Steps to Relax Shielding Guidance
06 July 2020
The Government has set out a road-map for the clinically extremely vulnerable on the future of the shielding programme. Their guidance changed on 6 July and will change again on 1 August, subject to clinical evidence. Please note that the government support offer has been extended: you can still get a food box, care and/or medicine delivery until 31 July if you want them, but you need to register online by 17 July if you haven’t already done so.

Do Sheffield's Pavements Work for You?

A postgraduate research project is aiming to study how disabled people experience moving around Sheffield with a specific focus on experiences of using pavements. Laura Harryman is looking for participants over the age of 18, from the Sheffield area who have a mobility impairment. Lockdown Easing Starts on 4th July

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced further changes to lockdown measures in England which will begin from 4th July ‘to enable people to see more of their friends and family, help businesses get back on their feet and get people back in their jobs’. The updated guidance for people classed as clinically extremely vulnerable will be published on 6 July and 1 August as these measures come into force.

Healthwatch Sheffield Annual Report

Healthwatch Sheffield has released its annual report for 2019-20, looking back on the work it did before the Covid-19 crisis struck and reflecting on the early impact of the pandemic for local people. The organisation is an independent consumer watchdog for health and social care services, which aims to help adults, children and young people influence and improve services.

Inclusive Justice for All

The Equality and Human Rights Commission has published the results of their inquiry into whether the criminal justice system treats disabled people fairly. The inquiry particularly focused on disabled people with cognitive impairments, mental health conditions and neuro-diverse conditions finding that the system is not systematically recognising the needs of disabled people. This means defendants and accused people risk not being able to participate properly in the legal process.

Online Workshops : Help Shape the Future of Sheffield Health and Social Care

Two on-line workshops delivered via Zoom have been announced for service users and carers, during which SHSC want to explore how you would like to see them working together more closely with service users and carers/young carers. The feedback from the workshops will help guide SHSC to better co-produce the Trust’s strategies as well as improving the services and care they offer. The workshops will be running online on Thursday 9 July 10am–12 pm and Friday 10 July 2 pm–4 pm if you’d like to take part.
