The Women’s Hub, part of Sheffield’s Equality Hub Network are wanting to talk to as many single parent mums as possible, from all backgrounds, about how you cope financially and practically. The aim of the project is to improve services in Sheffield and raise awareness of the impacts of wage poverty and austerity. They would particularly like to hear from disabled single parent Mums.

The Young Carers Activity Fund is designed to give young carers aged under 18 a break from their caring role and to give them a choice about how they take this break. The closing dates for applications for 2018-19 are 5pm on Friday 12th October 2018 and Friday 8th February 2019.

The National Autistic Society’s Autism Hour campaign, backed by celebrities such as Chris Packham, is creating a week of autism friendly shopping experiences across the UK. Shops, businesses and shopping centres will be holding Autism Hours throughout the second week of October (6-13).

The next meeting of the Disability Hub is on Tuesday 25 September 2018 from 2-4pm at The Circle. The Hub is one of the ways in which disabled people can have a greater say on the services and businesses disabled people interact with locally.

Disability Rights UK have launched this project , video and other resources about the Equality Act, to increase awareness of the Act, especially the ways it can protect disabled people from discrimination and how to use it in everyday situations.

Researchers from the University of Sheffield are holding a number of workshops to hear your views on ‘The ideal urgent and emergency care system.’ Refreshments and a light lunch or dinner will be provided and you will also receive a £30 high-street shopping voucher if you attend a workshop.

The fourth festival, offering more unique views into all aspects of the human brain, takes place from September 20-30 at a variety of venues across the city, as a collaboration between academic experts and creative cultural talent. Among the health-related events taking place is a talk entitled ‘In And Out Of Hospital’, based on the experiences of people with life-limiting conditions. This takes place on the first day of the festival in the specially-erected Spiegeltent on Barkers Pool.

Sheffield College and the Prince’s Trust are offering this free programme to 16 to 25-year-olds who are neither in work or full-time education but would like the chance to gain new skills, work towards gaining qualifications and build their confidence. The course starts on 24th September 2018 with further intakes in January and May 2019.

The Yorkshire and Humber office of the charity Just Different, set up to provide meaningful paid employment opportunities for disabled adults, is searching for workshop presenters on a self-employed basis. This will involve going to schools, businesses and community groups and talking about difference in a way that encourages acceptance, tolerance and understanding.
