    What Has Covid-19 Prevented You Doing?

    What has Covid-19 stopped you from doing that you would have done before? A call for disabled people’s experiences has been made by the People’s History Museum which is working on a film project about disabled people’s experiences and the virus’s impact on independent living. It would like to share your thoughts and experiences their representatives would like to either interview you or watch you on a home-made video clip. The deadline for submission is 5pm, 12 November, 2020.

    More We Belong Webinars

    Disability Rights UK’s ‘We Belong’ engagement campaign has got off to a flying start. DRUK are receiving your emails telling them what needs to change and have have held four online discussion groups with excellent contributions from disabled women and disabled people from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Three more webinars are scheduled to discuss Employment, LGBTQIA and Transport during October.

    Off the Shelf Programme of Events

    The annual ‘Off the Shelf’ festival programme brought to you by the University of Sheffield and celebrating books, words and ideas is taking place this year from 9-31 October. The organisers are keenly aware that books, reading and conversations are more important now than ever saying “We have worked throughout lockdown to produce uplifting and thought-provoking events that reflect the world around us and we can’t wait to share the whole programme with you. Much of the festival activity will be online but there will also be live events in real venues where we can safely invite audiences to hear some wonderful speakers in person.”

    ENIL Webinar on Independent Living Summary

    The European Network On Independent Living, a cross – disability rights civil society organization covering the continent – has hosted a seminar working towards ensuring that all disabled people can live independently. Among the speakers were activists and advocates of the social model of disability, the deinstitutionalisation movement, and the disability movement. Representing the UK was Simone Aspis who reflected on the 12 pillars of independent living and segregation in educational settings in the UK.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
