    The Light Cinema on The Moor in Sheffield is holding special dementia-friendly screenings to ensure that people living with dementia have the opportunity to watch films in adapted environments. There are no adverts or trailers and the lighting will be slightly raised throughout the screening.

  • Study Into Effects Of Ageing With A Disability

    People over the age of 50 with long-term disabilities are being asked to take part in a new study into the effects of ageing. Sheffield Hallam University and Partners for Inclusion have teamed up to carry out research into the effects of ageing on people with long term disabilities. “The lived experience of disabled people is missing from conversations about what it means to grow older. Disabled people have a wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience about disability and ageing that currently isn’t discussed within services, communities or the research literature,” says Jill Pluquailec, who is carrying out the research at the University.

  • Housing and Disabled People : Britain's Hidden Crisis

    An Equality and Human Rights Commission inquiry has revealed that disabled people are disadvantaged in almost every part of the housing market,that there is a significant shortage of accessible homes and that many disabled people are frustrated by the housing system.The inquiry also found that disabled people reported improved physical and mental health and well being, enhanced prospects for employment and study when their homes met their access requirements.

    This year’s nominations have now been shortlisted by staff and committee members and the final ten have been chosen if you wish to vote for a local charity to win an award of up to £5000. The shortlist includes the Cathedral Archer Project, Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind and Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care. Voting closes on 31st July.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
