UK Disability History Month : Following Patient 36 Digital Story

UK Disability History Month : Following Patient 36 Digital Story

To celebrate UK Disability History Month this year, the DIY Theatre Company has launched “Following Patient 36” , a performance piece exploring Learning Disability History and the resilience of people with learning disabilities in Salford and Greater Manchester. It has been created by adults with learning disabilities based on interviews, research and personal experiences.

Because they are unable to share their performance on the stage for the foreseeable future the DIY Theatre Company have made an interactive Digital Story incorporating films, songs and images, as a way of exploring some of the important issues raised by the performance. The Digital Story has already been shown at Manchester Histories Digifest 2020 and at the Enrich Festival this Summer. They have now developed educational resources to accompany the Digital Story and some resources to support schools and others to explore Learning Disability History.

The Digital Story and resources are available through their
website.

UK Disability History Month is taking place from 18th November until Friday 18th December 2020.

UKDHM is an annual event creating a platform to focus on the history of disabled peoples’ struggle for equality and human rights. This year’s theme is Access: How far have we come? How far have we to go? Follow the link to find out more about UK Disability History Month .

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
