Sheffield's New 'Care at Night' Service

From the 6th May 2019, a new integrated service, Care at Night, will provide health and social care support for people in Sheffield in their own homes during the night.

The new ‘Care at Night’ service has been developed collaboratively between Sheffield City Council and the Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

The collaboration aims to deliver person centred care through a jointly funded service.

Sheffield City Council believe that the new service will support their vision of enabling individuals to remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

Care at Night will replace the two existing night care services, with the new contract awarded for three years with an option for an additional two years.

The new service will also have a much broader scope than existing services, and it is hoped that Care at Night will deliver more beneficial outcomes, such as:

  • Individuals in receipt of care will remain with the same care provider should their eligible needs change, in doing so benefiting from continuity of care and maintaining the important relationships developed with carers
  • Individuals will spend less time in hospital once medically fit, with the ability to return to their own homes at the earliest opportunity receiving both short term and long term care based on their assessed need
  • Individuals benefit from services which promote their independence and quality of life which are least restrictive, with care managers and providers trained to assess if the latest technology could be deployed such as; automated bed turning, continence management and assistive living technologies, which potentially reduce the number of visits required
  • Individuals and their families will have a strong voice enabled through provider led regular quality surveys which will monitor service quality and promote continuous service improvement

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
