Could You Volunteer to Peer Support?

Could You Volunteer to Peer Support?

We are looking for around 10 volunteers to help us design and deliver peer support group workshops to people going through the direct payments process. We expect to deliver a core programme of four different workshops on a rolling basis;

1. How do direct payments work?
2. How do I recruit a PA?
3. Managing a PA
4. ‘Open’ session

The first stage will be to work with our Community Network Coordinator to create the workshops themselves, based on your lived experience. For this stage we can pay volunteers a small co-production fee.

The peer-support workshops themselves will probably be 2-3 hours long and delivered during working hours. You will need to be available to help jointly deliver workshops along with a 1-2 other volunteers and our Community Network Coordinator, Paul Ntulila We would ask that volunteers are able to commit to delivering at least one workshop a month.

If you are interested in supporting people who need help understanding the direct payments system, please get in touch with Paul at Disability Sheffield by emailing paul.ntulila@disabilitysheffield.org.uk

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference
