Be Seen On Screen Supporting Independent Living

Reclaiming Our Futures Alliance is co-ordinating the ‘Independent Living Film Project’ and is calling for disabled people to make a short video to tell everyone how important the concept is to them.

This initiative came out of discussions at the Independent Living Strategy Group (ILSG), chaired by Baroness Jane Campbell. Before the COVID-19 emergency, the group agreed that there was a need to raise awareness about independent living and what it means in order to prepare the ground for an Independent Living Bill.

ILSG has now issued a statement saying:

“Calling all deaf and disabled people – tell us why Independent Living matters to you! How to get involved? Easy – make a video on your phone and send it to us, we will do the rest.”

Their video explains the questions they would like you to briefly answer and how to send them your video.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
