Local Elections Rule Changes and Accessibility

Local Elections Rule Changes and Accessibility

With local election imminent and a general election sometime this year we want to remind people there are more accessibility aids available and you can request other adjustments. You also need to know about a rule change for submitting postal votes at polling stations and council buildings.

If you want to ask for an adjustment to make voting in a polling station more accessible to you then in Sheffield you should contact the council’s electoral services team on 0114 273 4093 or elections@sheffield.gov.uk . Don’t forget you will need suitable Photo ID to vote.

This year a rule change is now in place meaning that anyone taking a postal vote into a polling station will now have to fill in a form with their information and a reason on. If the form is not filled in then the postal vote will be rejected. There is also a limit to how many postal votes you can take into a council office or polling station of a maximum of five votes plus your own. If you get someone else to take your vote in then make sure they know about the new rules so that things go smoothly.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
