Falls Awareness and Dementia

Falls Awareness and Dementia

In Falls Prevention Awareness Week we are highlighting Sheffield City Council’s new resources for people living with dementia.

Their Staying Steady and Independent with Dementia leaflet has been designed as a dementia friendly resource to reduce the risk of falling.

It’s available on the Sheffield Directory’s Dementia Support in Sheffield pages on the Hints and tips to help reduce your chance of falling with Dementia page.=

To supplement this information there’s a new Dementia and Falls Prevention Toolkit website , which has been designed for professionals and contains a variety of resources, presented in different ways (e.g. checklists, handouts, recordings). The toolkit brings together a collection of information from different organisations which is relevant to people living with dementia who are at risk of falling or who have fallen.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
