Thousands of contact tracers are making their first phone calls to track down people who will be told to self-isolate under new test and trace schemes in England and Scotland. Tracers will text, email or call people who test positive with coronavirus and ask who they have had contact with. The new NHS Test and Trace service has the capacity to trace 10,000 contacts per day. The Gov.UK website provides an overview of how the new scheme works.

Sheffield Talking News( STN ) has been finding creative new ways of working during the Coronavirus outbreak and wants all their listeners to be able to continue listening. STN has temporarily suspended their memory stick service but the good news is that listeners can still hear all their recordings completely free of charge over the telephone or through various online sources.

Dance music fans took steps to raise more than £700 for Disability Sheffield by taking part in a lockdown disco party on 25 April. Sheffield University is inviting members of the public, patients, and health professionals to take part in interviews which aim to explore what people think about sharing patient data/medical records for purposes beyond their individual care, e.g. for research to improve treatments or healthcare services. The research is being managed by the Information School at the University who are looking for people aged 25-44 or 65 plus from a range of different backgrounds to take part. To say thank you for your time, all participants will receive a £30 Amazon voucher which will be emailed to you after the interview.

A Sheffield-based legal firm has launched a campaign to ensure disabled people get priority online shopping places.Fry Law recently won a case taken against Tesco on behalf of a housebound woman who had been unable to secure a slot for her shopping. She accused the supermarket of breaching the Equality Act 2010 for not making reasonable adjustments.

Lockdown has seen a huge increase in incidents of domestic abuse, with leading charity Refuge reporting a 700% increase in calls to their helpline in a single day. Women’s Aid has produced a range of Coronavirus/COVID-19 Safety and Support Resources for survivors, friends, family, neighbours and community members including in British sign language and other languages.
