The Sheffield branch of campaigning organisation Disabled People Against Cuts has produced a survey which can be filled in anonymously by anyone affected by changes to benefits during the Coronavirus pandemic. DPAC Sheffield is protesting about people on legacy benefits not being eligible for the £20 uplift in Universal Credit. A second ‘Day of Action’ will take place on Monday March 1, two days before the Government’s Budget is announced.

The charity In Control has set up a survey to look at the delivery support tools for personal health budgets, focusing on the legal ‘Right to Have’. It will help the NHS understand how helpful / inclusive the tools are to ensure that people with learning disabilities and autistic people are included in the legal ‘Right to Have’. The closing date is Tuesday 2nd March 2021.

The Covid-19 crisis has pushed individuals and families into financial hardship and some people do not have enough money to afford to eat a nutritiously adequate diet. Sheffield City Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Management Committee has set up a working group to look at Food Poverty in Sheffield. If you have been affected by food poverty you can let the Council know about your experience on their consultation hub until 14th March 2021 .

NHS England and NHS Improvement Learning Disability and Autism Programme is inviting family carers to take part in a workshop. This free online training has been designed to help carers of people with a learning disability and/or autism easily identify signs that the person they care for may be unwell and to let them know what they should do next. The workshop is free and only for carers of someone who is over the age of 16. Sessions are available until the end of March. The training is 90 minutes long and you only need to attend one session.

NHS Sheffield CCG is encouraging people to have their Covid-19 vaccinations explaining who’s being vaccinated now and how to book your vaccine. Their Frequently Asked Questions page also covers topics such as the the new shielding list,the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine and who should not have the injection. Their Case Studies provide snapshots of local people’s experiences of having the jab.

Did you know that since the first lockdown in March last year twenty four new online dementia friendly groups have started up in Sheffield? From Zoom Memory Cafés, to online exercise and Tai Chi Groups, dementia carers sessions and relaxation groups, virtual sessions for women and for men, online singing, creative writing and sporting memories groups – all available in a weekly calendar.

Disability Rights UK Our Voices, a group of organisations run by and for disabled people, including Disability Sheffield, is calling on the government to delay the Disability Strategy. The group has sent a letter to highlight their serious concerns about both the timetable and the methods used to engage with disabled people and their organisations. The Government have “listened to concerns and extended the deadline for contributions to be woven into the strategy to 28 February “.

Wheelpower has been providing opportunities in sport for people with physical impairments for over 70 years and is offering wheelchair users and physically disabled people a free set of resistance training bands to help you keep fit throughout lockdown. The bands can be used for the exercises featured in their Resistance Band Exercises for Wheelchair Users films or for yoga, warming up before exercising, strength training or physical therapy rehabilitation.
