Student Advisors Needed to Develop Training for Workplace PAs

We are developing training for students who might need to employ a Workplace Personal Assistant when they graduate. We are seeking to recruit 3 advisors , who are current students or recent graduates of Sheffield Hallam University or the University of Sheffield , to help us develop the training. You will receive a one off £150 payment when the work is complete. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 13th February.

Watchdog Inspection Finds Grave Weaknesses in SEND Practice in Sheffield

A joint inspection by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission found that special educational needs reforms announced in 2014 have not been implemented consistently and that children and young people are not being supported well enough by social care, health and education professionals in Sheffield.

Young Carers' Petition Calls For Free Bus Pass

Young carers in Sheffield have set up a petition calling for free bus passes for young carers so they can undertake their caring responsibilities more easily, carry on with their education, training or employment, and have the chance to have a social life.The petition will be presented to the full council meeting on Wednesday February 6th.

We're Only Making Plans For Nigel......

People with a learning disability and autism have helped co-produce a hard-hitting video to get their ‘Work with us, not for us’ message across. It is about them being the experts on their own lives, and what good support looks like. The video, Making Plans For Nigel, named after and featuring a 1979 hit single by wacky powerpop band XTC, aims to show the way that some disabled people are often labelled against their will, patronised and not listened to.

Disabled people’s employment charity JustDifferent has published a poem describing the everyday experiences of one of their staff.The charity employs a team of workshop presenters who create and deliver workshops on a variety of disability and difference topics to school and businesses.

Free Training for Personal Assistants : Emergency First Aid at Work

Places are still available on our Emergency First Aid at Work course on 11 February from 9.30am to 4.30pm at Moorfoot Learning Centre.This qualification will enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations.You must be physically able to carry out the practical elements of the course such as CPR and the recovery position.
