Tackling Inequalities across Y&H: Barriers and Benefits to being Active - 10am - 3pm

Thursday 1st October

This online virtual event will provide the opportunity to hear about the impact of Covid-19 on the lives of disabled people and physical activity.

With a keynote speech from Yorkshire’s own gold medal winning Paralympian Hannah Cockroft MBE this online event will:

• Inform the audience on the benefits of disabled people being active and smaller local networks developed to improve local communication and understanding across different audience groups.

• Highlight emerging insight into experiences of disabled people in being active during response to Covid -19, the inequalities that have widened as a result of Covid-19 and the longer term impact on physical and mental health and wellbeing.

• Finally it will support a call to action with the development of local multisector networks to address the inequalities that disabled people face in relation to physical activity and the benefits this brings to physical and mental health. Build on learning and increase physical activity opportunities and confidence in disabled people and those individuals with a long term health condition.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
