    Leisure Time Sessions Are Back Again!

    A fun and friendly group which organises leisure events for disabled people has restarted bigger and better following the loosening up of Covid-19 regulations. The ‘Leisure Time’ sessions take place on Friday mornings from 10.30-12.30 at Concord Sports Centre and costs £3 for participants with their carers admitted free.

They are inviting people with a profound and multiple learning disability and their families or paid carers to be part of their photography project and exhibition entitled ‘Involving Everyone’.     Under The Stars and On Stage

    Members of performing arts organisation Under The Stars will be acting up at the end of this month and the start of next – with two separate shows at the Crucible Theatre.The Sheffield based charity uses the performing arts to enhance the lives of people with learning disabilities and/or autism. ‘Freedonia’ takes place on Tuesday May 31 and ‘The Many Journeys of Maria Rossini’ the following evening, both in the Studio Theatre starting at 7pm.

Disability Sheffield is hosting a series of events during the week of 16th-20th May to find out what people’s experiences are of accessing healthcare in Sheffield. if you have a learning disability , autism or you are a carer, do join us. We’ll also send out a survey and offer a phoneline for two weeks so you can call and leave messages for us to tell us what you think.

    Like to meet other carers, share experiences and have a break? Sheffield Carers Centre has a new webpage providing details of their Carers Cafės and Support Groups. The in-person Carers Cafė takes place at 10am on the 2nd Friday of each month at the United Reformed Church in the city centre (and Zoom events are held on all the other Fridays.Carer support groups’ meet at various locations around the city.

    In the UK alone, there are over 10 million people living with some form of hearing loss. . One of the reasons to particularly celebrate Deaf Awareness Week ( 2-8 May ) this year is that British Sign Language has now been declared a language in its own right in England, Scotland and Wales due to new legislation, the BSL Act , which was passed last week and is supported by a package of measures.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
