    #SpeakUp Small Grants Reports

    Healthwatch Sheffield has been publishing the findings from their #SpeakUp small grants scheme, where local voluntary and community groups speak to the people they work with about their experiences with health and care services. Reports in November and December include the Burton St Foundation, Luv2MeetYou , Asperger’s Children and Carers Together, Autism Hope and Sheffield Voices, Disability Sheffield’s learning disability group.

    Sheffield REC Initial Findings

    The Sheffield Race Equality Commission was established in Summer 2020 by Sheffield City Council to assess the nature, extent, causes and impact of racism and race inequality in Sheffield and to make recommendations for tackling them. Its interim report concludes that the state of racial equality in the city remains a significant problem for Sheffield.

    Sheffield City Council has published a report of findings from its survey with Sheffield’s children and young people on their experiences of coronavirus and life in lockdown.It was recognised that although young people are less likely to get seriously ill from the virus, the pandemic will still have had a profound effect on their lives in many other ways.

    Sheffield Voices Express Anger Over Abuse Scandal

    Learning disabilities self-advocacy group Sheffield Voices has called for change and expressed anger in a video after an autism and learning disability unit was closed to new admissions . A CQC report identified that The Firshill Rise unit was not safe or effective and people experienced harm because of a lack of protection, abusive incidents, restraint and seclusion.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
